About the league

Scottsdale Tennis League was created to connect local tennis enthusiasts who are interested in playing recreatrional tennis regularlly once a week in a competitive but yet friendly and low key environment.

We accept players of all skill levels who are over 18 y/o and we hope to match you up with other local players at the similar skill level.. Players are expected to be able to keep up with the schedule and regularly arrange weekly matches.

Our flexible scheduling system allows you to play  whenever and wherever you and your opponents agree on. It's a great way to fit tennis around your other activities. You have 7 days to complete one match.

Setting up matches

Our schedule is posted on this web site weeks in advance. You have 7 days to play one match. It can be any day during the designated week that players agree on.

Early in the week players email each other to arrange  when and where they want to play. This process can be a bit tricky since two  players might  have different availability so  starting that communication as early as possible will be crucial.

Players are expected to respond to their opponent's email, text or call within 24 hours. Players that show pattern of poor communication and lack of initiative to schedule matches regularly will be removed from the league.

Deadlines

Scores need to be emailed to the league manager by each Monday night and they will be posted on this site. Official deadline to play previous week's match is Monday night. Players can  take one day extension and play their match on Tuesday if they requested  an extension by the Monday night deadline. Player are allowed to take 2 extension per a session. Matches not completed by the deadline (unless extension is requested) are recorded DNP (did not play) and both players lose half of a point as a penalty for not completing the match. If one player is not available whole week they will be expected to forfeit the match 0-6,0-6. Aside from taking one day extension matches can not be postponed. All incomplete matches will be recorded DNP and no exceptions will be made.

Scorekeeping

Matches are played to win in three sets with an option for players to agree to stop playing at 1-1 and call it a tie.

So possible scores will be:

2-0   (winner gets 3 points, loser gets 0 points)
2-1  (winner gets 3 points, loser gets 0.5 points )
1-1  (each player gets 1  point) both players must agree to stop playing at 1-1
DNP (match not  completed on time, both players get 0.5 points deducted from their total
FORFEIT (Player that forfeits gets 0 points his opponent 3 points match recorder 6-0,6-0)

If set score is 6-6 players play a tie break (first to win 7 points with two points differential).

If the third set score is 6-6 players play a tie break unless they both decide to play to win by two games  (for example 8-6,9-7 etc).

Players can also agree to play a 10 point tiebreak instead of a full 3rd set. Both players need to agree on this, otherwise a full 3rd set is to be played.

Location
Matches are played on local public courts with free access ideally somewhere half way between player's locations. Each player needs to bring a can of unused balls, racket spin is done before the match to determine who provides the balls for that match.

Running late?
Players should be punctual and show up at agreed time. If your opponent is  more then 15 minutes  late you can take off and record a forfeit win. No shows are strongly discouraged and multiple instances of not showing up may  lead to suspension from the league.

We are looking for players who can commit to our schedule and rules. Our members join the league with a serious intention to play one match each week. They expect other  players to be flexible enough to schedule matches consistently, and keep up with the schedule. Players need to have good and timely email or phone communication with each other.  We strongly advise new players not to sign up if they are not sure they can follow our schedule, or if they are looking to play occasionally. It is very important to be flexible and available enough during the week. If you are only available one or two days each week it probably won't be enough.
Most matches are played after 5pm during the workweek and any time over the weekends.

The signup is always for one session at a time.   We have a new signup before each session (each session is 5-7 weeks long) This web site is our main source of information like rules, schedule, results, standings, player's contact information etc.

Players get in touch by email or phone. We recommend using an email account that you check frequently and that you can check from home.

If you would like to sign up for the next session please CLICK HERE  or  if have additional questions please contact us.
